Red deer

 

 

Description:

 

is a large deer, dark brown-red in winter and roasting in summer. 

The male has well-developed antlers, more than 1 mt. long, well branched and with a variable number of points. The male has a thick mane from the neck to the chest.

Size: height at withs up to 122cm.

Length from 175cm to 285cm. Female (hind) is slightly smaller than stag: Weight: 100-120 kg. Male 200 kg

Life-span: stag about 15 years

Food: mainly grasses, heather, leaves and twigs.
The red deer is Britainys largest land mammal. Native in Europe, it´s also found in Turkey and as far as China until Mongolia. It has been introduced to Uruguay, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
